On May 28th, 2009, Sue, an RSVP volunteer addressed the Brookhaven Town Board at a public Town Hall Meeting to spotlight the dire situation - 147 dogs - at the municipal shelter. A newspaper reporter was present and subsequently offered to feature Brookhaven dogs for adoption in The Long Island Advance, a local community newspaper.
