The RSVP Newsletter

Dec 2008

RSVP would like to thank everyone for their past support. Whether you've adopted a dog, fostered a special needs animal, volunteered your time, attended an event or offered a donation - it is appreciated more than words can say and enables RSVP to assist those dogs with no where else to turn. In an effort to keep all informed of the work that is made possible with your help, we will be publishing a newsletter periodically. So, here is an update on what's been happening! And thank you again for all you do!
The Fashion Show

The 4th Annual RSVP Fashion Show was a smashing success. Tickets were sold out to a crowd of over 100 guests. A very special thanks to Connie, Michele and Debra for their hard work. Click Here for more photos.

Autumn Howl

This is the event that almost wasn't! Special thanks to Connie for making it happen. Additional kudos to the volunteers! The 3rd Annual Autumn Howl was a Howling success. Click Here for more photos.

Pit Puppies

For Debra, one of the RSVP co-founders, Mondays are fairly routine. After all, she's been going into "the hood" for the past 7 years. As part of the RSVP Community Outreach program, Debra visits dogs that are kept outside to ensure basic comforts. She will clean up the yard, refresh their bowls with fresh water and food, and fill their doghouses with a new supply of straw during the cold weather. But one cool Autumn morning her routine suddenly changed. In a nearby lot, under a rotted log, were 9 puppies - born to one of the free-roaming neighborhood dogs. Debra quickly scooped them up, packed them in the van and began making phone calls. The puppies were welcomed with open arms at the Southold Animal Shelter. There, they were checked by a veterinarian, given the necessary medical attention, scheduled for their spay/neuter appointments and available for adoption. Special thanks to Gillian of the NFAWL for her unending support and to Debra for making a difference in their precious little lives! Click Here for more photos.

From the Chain to the Plane

Kelly, one of the RSVP volunteers, received a call about a German Shepherd that was on a short chain without shelter. She quickly investigated and spoke to the owner. Initially, Kelly supplied a doghouse and a longer lead, but recognizing that the dog was in need of more attention, and concerned about the pending winter weather, she convinced the owner to surrender him. The search for a new home began. "Corbell" was impressive at 100+ lbs and very handsome! In addition, he had a personality to match! He was friendly and good with all ... children, other dogs, even cats. After posting his picture on Petfinder.com a man from Massachusettes called. He and his wife had been searching for a German Shepherd and provided excellent references, hoping to be selected as Corbell's new family. Kelly knew they were the real deal when they offered to come to Long Island - and if accepted, they would take Corbell back to their home ... on a plane - to Nantucket Island! It was a very happy ending for one lucky dog! They are in love with him and Corbell is doing great! Once again, special thanks to Kelly for coming to the rescue!
