"Yayo"
Feb, 2011
The first time I saw Yayo he was curled in a tight little ball in his plastic igloo. He was trying to conserve as much of his body heat as he could but it was not enough to ward off the bitter cold winter air. He was on a cable outdoors and it was all he could do. The frigid temperatures would have been uncomfortable for a dog with a thick winter coat, let alone a 22lb. Jack Russell Terrier. To compound matters his ear was infected and sore to the touch. His owners lamented that he was not housebroken and was being unpredictable with the children. They agreed to surrender him and RSVP Community Outreach volunteers took Yayo to a vet and had him treated.
Yayo is in a temporary foster home and has recovered from his ear infection. He was walked regularly and crated until he was housebroken. Patience and simple routines are all it takes. It is comforting just to watch him rest on a soft blanket in a warm home, and see the grateful gaze that says, “Thank you.” Yayo is 10 years young and very spry for his age. He loves to go for walks and car rides. All he needs is an adult home
