Owner keeping
"Cody"
Sept, 2010
Based on the AKC (American Kennel Club), the American Foxhound is one of this country's rarest native breeds. George Washington is credited with creating this noble dog by breeding his own Virginia hounds with the French Foxhound. These dogs came from the French king's royal kennel and were a personal gift from General Lafayette. It was a passion of our first president and is evident in many journal entries and historical accounts. That said, it is reasonable to speculate that our Pet of the Week, “Cody,” an American Foxhound, is a direct descendant of our founding father's very own dogs!
While his lineage may be impressive, “Cody's” early life was less fortunate. He was rescued by an elderly woman from an abusive situation. She gave Cody a loving home for one year, but he needs more activity than she can provide.
Cody is two (2) years young, brown and white, speckled, 70 lbs, up to date with his vaccinations, house broken and crate trained. He is also good with children and other dogs and enjoys playing with his toys.
Cody would make an excellent addition to any family. His owner is heartbroken, but knows that this decision is best for both of them. Adopt Cody, a classic American dog. GW would take him in a heartbeat!
