Adopted from Brookhaven Shelter May, 2009

Champagne

May, 2009

Champagne is a pedigree American Bulldog. She weighs approx. 75 lbs. and is good with children, loves other dogs and playing with toys.

Champagne was a pet for 8 years. Maybe "pet" is not the right word. She was kept in a garage and it is not clear how often she got out. Her owner surrendered her to a municipal shelter early this year. She was adopted to another home in January and kept outdoors. She remained outside throughout the winter and was returned in March. It was obvious that she had lost weight and was extremely thin. Despite these hardships, Champagne still greets everyone with a wagging tail. I don't know how she does it. After a lifetime of experiencing this level of "care" she is still trusting, friendly and loving. She loves to exchange affection and has waited her whole life for someone who feels the same way.

Champagne was recently diagnosed with urinary problems. However, she is house-broken and it is suspected that her condition is due to her reluctance to relieve herself in her kennel. She will wait to be walked, but infections can develop if the opportunity to go out does not occur. Fortunately, with proper care this should be easily corrected.

If an adoption or foster home could be found, Champagne could experience the kind of nurturing environment she so deserves. If you would like more information or to meet her, call (631) 219-8529. She would so love to meet you.
