Carlito

Update Oct, 2010

“Carlito” is a handsome German Shepherd mix, six years young. He was rescued from the Riverhead municipal shelter by RSVP approx. six months ago. He had already been at the shelter for a long time and was over extending his welcome. He has worked with RSVP volunteer and dog trainer, Ray on a daily basis for the past several months and is doing fantastic! He knows all the basic commands, walks well on a leash and is more than ready for someone to welcome him home. Carlito is strong, healthy and a great companion and watch dog. You are the only thing he needs now. For more information, call

Oct, 2009

Carlito is a handsome German Shepherd mix who was surrendered when his owners moved. He has been at a local municipal shelter for several months now, hopeful that someone will take him home. Carlito may be “at risk,” which means he may be considered for euthanasia. And if you are unfamiliar with the term, dictionary.com defines it as “mercy killing, the act of putting to death or allowing to die.” It's interesting how we develop words to couch what might otherwise be unpleasant to acknowledge. The sad reality is that over 4 million dogs are “euthanized” every year, all for want of a home. So, if you are considering adding a pet to your home, please consider adoption vs. purchasing a dog from a pet store or breeder. And please consider Carlito. He is 6 years young, tan with black markings, weighs approx. 60 lbs., is house-broken, knows basic commands and walks well on a leash. Call

Carlito is dying to meet you.
