Adopted from Brookhaven Shelter May, 2009

Bull

May, 2009

Walk down the isle of any shelter. Every dog has a story to tell. A story of abandonment, heartbreak, loneliness but also, hope.

“Bull” is no exception. He came into the shelter as a puppy and was only 4-5 months old. He was shy and timid. And he wobbled. Bull was listed as a Great Dane mix. He was seen by a vet but the diagnosis was uncertain. When he walked his front legs sometimes buckled. It was unclear if this was a disability he was born with, or if there were circumstances after birth that interfered with his physical development, possibly crate confinement and/or inadequate diet and exercise. The metal bed was removed from his kennel to prevent injury, but unfortunately that left only the hard, concrete floor to lie on.

Picked up as a stray, Bull has grown up in a shelter. He is a year old now and very handsome with a tan coat and dark muzzle. He weighs about 70 lbs and is super gentle when taking treats from your hand. He also appears to enjoy the company of most dogs and wants to play.

On occasion he is taken out for a walk, but unfortunately, in a shelter environment, this is typically no more than once a day for about 10 minutes. One of the volunteers noticed that when he is on leash and moving at a quicker pace, he seems to sail through the air and is very sure footed and even graceful.

Everyone loves him and suspects that in a home environment, where he can run and play, Bull's body will strengthen. His spirit is strong.

Bull is wary of strangers at first, but once familiar, he is very affectionate and will bond quickly. He seems to have trained himself and will wait to be walked – or maybe he has discovered that it is the way to leave the confines of his kennel, if only for a short while.

This Great Dane is a Great Dog. If you would like to meet Bull, call (631) 219-8529 for more information.
