Adopted Sept 2009
Bridget

August, 2009
Update September 2009
Our beloved Bridget is still looking for her forever home. After spending a year in an overcrowded shelter, she was adopted by a family who had to move and couldn't take her. She was recently placed with the most wonderful foster family who loved her dearly. Our petite, 35lb. black terrier was in heaven. She was wonderful with their 5 year old daughter whom Bridget accompanied everywhere, her constant companion. However, there were times when Bridget would get over-excited and run or jump with joy. Because her new family had a 6 month old child, they were concerned an accident could occur.
When Bridget was returned, everyone was in tears and the little 5 year old girl was inconsolable. Bridget was placed in her boarding kennel and cried like a baby. It was heart breaking. She is truly the sweetest dog ever. RSVP is hoping that another family will come forward and welcome her unbridled love and enthusiasm. Those who know her can tell you - her love is endless.
If you would like to meet Bridget, and consider adoption or temporary foster care, call (631) 877-3400 or visit www.rsvpinc.org.

August 2009
One year ago, our “Pet of the Week” was Bridget. This petite, 35lb., black and white terrier mix was 3 years young and so full of love and happiness despite her misfortunes.
Bridget was picked up as a stray and taken to a large municipal shelter. Her kennel was blocked by the door that leads into the pens and it was difficult to get noticed. Bridget would spin and jump when visitors entered as if to say, “Over here! Here I am!” But it didn't matter. She was always passed by. After months of being invisible, Bridget stopped trying. Determined to help her, an RSVP volunteer found a sponsor for Bridget, but her troubles were not over. Routine tests revealed that Bridget had heartworm. Bridget was treated and while recovering, her foster family fell in love and decided to adopt her.
But another misfortune has crossed Bridget's path. It is a year later and her family must move out of state and is unable to take her. Everyone is heartbroken and wants only to find a caring home for this special little girl who is wonderful with all: children, dogs and cats!
Another companion pet, “Lucky,” featured several weeks ago is still looking for her rescue family also. She is a young, female, black lab mix, 45lbs and is also great with all. Both dogs have excellent temperaments and would be excellent choices for a multi-pet home or family with children. Visit www.rsvpinc.org or call (631) 877-3400 for more information.

Everyone loves Bridget. You can't help it. She is great with all: children, dogs and cats! This petite, 35lb., black and white terrier mix is 3 years young and so full of love and happiness despite her misfortunes.
Bridget was picked up as a stray and taken to a large municipal shelter which often houses 100+ dogs. Needless to say, it was difficult to get noticed. Especially since her kennel was blocked by the door that leads into the pens. Bridget would spin and jump when visitors entered as if to say, “Over here! Here I am!” But it didn't matter. She was always passed by. After months of being invisible, Bridget stopped trying. Alone in her kennel, without so much as a blanket or toy for comfort, she would just lie on the cold, hard, concrete floor, despondent. It seemed as if her spirit was broken. No one knew her secret, but Bridget was slowly dying. Determined to help her, a volunteer spoke to Dr. Lachhar of the Riverhead Animal Hospital. Dr. Lachhar offered to foster Bridget for RSVP at the “Bed and Biscuit,” the hospital's boarding facility. It was Bridget's big break. However, her troubles were not over. Routine tests revealed that Bridget had heartworm. Although not contagious, it is a serious illness which, left untreated can be fatal. Treatment is very effective, but extensive, requiring x-rays, blood work, injections and medication. It is also very costly – about $900. If a shelter dog is known to have heartworm, it is often euthanized because they will not cover the procedure. Fortunately, this will not happen to Bridget.
Bridget will be cured and “live happily ever after” but she needs your help. If you would like to make a difference in this sweet little girl's life, a tax-deductible donation toward her medical expenses can be mailed to RSVP, Inc. PO Box 335 Eastport, NY 11941. And if you really want to be Bridget's superhero, she is still waiting for a home and someone to love forever. Call RSVP today at (631) 728-3524. Foster care is welcome also.
