About Us
Our History RSVP, Inc. is a 501c3, non-profit animal rescue group serving Eastern Long Island, New York since Jan 6, 1996. Originally founded as the “Riverhead Shelter Volunteer Program” their goal was to improve conditions at the Riverhead municipal shelter. This small group of passionate and dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to reduce the euthanasia rate and find suitable homes for lost, abandoned and surrendered animals. Through these efforts, they successfully reversed the trend to destroy many adoptable pets and are still active at the Riverhead Shelter today, where the euthanasia rate has been reduced to approximately 6%. The core group has changed over time and the small band of passionate advocates has operated “under the radar,” overshadowed by some of Long Island's more popular and financially endowed rescue groups. When these widely known organizations are over capacity, they will frequently recommend RSVP, Inc. to pet owners needing assistance. Sometimes less is more.
RSVP, Inc. is there for dogs with no where else to turn and is run entirely by volunteers.
Our Programs
Community Outreach The Community Outreach program provides food, shelter and medical services for pets and owners needing financial assistance. We are active in communities where dogs are used for protection and live outdoors all year long. With the cooperation and approval of the owners, the animals are visited regularly and provided with basic comforts, including dog houses and straw in winter. Call (631) 877-3400.
Spay/Neuter RSVP offers spay/neuter certificates which includes basic innoculations to pet owners needing financial assistance. Owners need only select a participating veterinarian, RSVP will arrange a voucher, and the owner can make an appointment at their convenience. Transportation is also available if needed.
Call (631) 325-1733
Adoptions The Rescue and Adoption program will seek out and adopt the neediest dogs in overcrowded shelters and provide foster care or private boarding while searching for good, loving, permanent homes. Call (631) 728-3524
